Empirical software engineering considers the systematic application of research methodologies to empirically investigate contemporary phenomena in software engineering.

The goal of the Bachelor's proseminar is to lay the foundation in empirical software engineering. To this end, we will actively discuss principles, terms, approaches, and methods to conduct empirical studies in software engineering.

Supervisor of this proseminars is Prof. Manfred Broy. Advisors are:

For any further questions, contact Dr. Daniel Mendez Fernandez.

The participants of the proseminar will learn how to elaborate scientific topics in self-guided manner and to present their results in front of the seminar as well as in a short essay. For that, students are required to conduct their own literature study on the basis of introductory (given) references.

Examination Criteria

All participants are expected to actively participate in the seminar sessions and discussions. Every student will give a presentation of 20 minutes and 15 minutes discussion. In addition, each student is required to deliver an essay of 5-8 pages in given style (document templates and LaTeX style files will be provided).
